Tivilier Mill, France
These
mills are also called Louis XIV mills. They were made by the Tivilier
family following the same general plan, carved from a piece of wood rather than
joined, but many are more elaborately decorated than this one. With the handle
removed, the lid opens. This one also has a metal base with a slot for attaching
it to a cleat on the table or work surface, not an unknown feature for mills of
this era.
